For some, COVID was the beginning of the end for business, but for Crepe Market Owner Gonzalo Castro it was just the beginning of success.

Moving from Argentina to Australia after finishing his Engineering degree at University, Mr Castro found himself in love with Sydney and began creating his crepe business for crepe lovers everywhere in late 2019.

When the pandemic hit in 2020, shutting down businesses left to right, essential places still open to the public like supermarkets and farmer markets were the rocket launch for his market.

“We started the business just before COVID hit,” Mr Castro said.

“For us it was actually really good to start with because people had no places to go but farmer markets or supermarkets.

“So we started doing a lot of farmer markets in Newcastle, Sydney and Wollongong and so for us it was actually really good for our business.”

There are many more reasons behind the successful market pop-up including the freedom, the versatility, the high-quality ingredients.

Mr Castro and his partner are most proud of their attitude towards the problems their business has faced like COVID and are also proud of creating a product for everyone.

“What I am proud of is how versatile we are, a product that can be savoury or sweet,” Mr Castro said.

“It doesn’t matter the problems we have faced over the years, we always make it happen, we always find a way to run the business.”

Although Mr Castro and his partner enjoy the freedom of the business, they have moved forward with a pop-up stall in Warriewood Square. They plan in the next 6 months, if successful, to make it into a permanent shop and leave a successful physical business before they move back to Argentina.
