In the wake of the State Government decision to ban greyhound racing in NSW from 1 July next year following an enquiry into the industry, the greyhound racing community and its supporters staged a protest in Hyde Park to voice their concerns and frustrations to Premier Mike Baird. The protesters hoped to convince the government to postpone or cancel the ban in order to give the industry a chance to reform. The greyhound racing industry says the ban, now passed into legislation, will affect owners, breeders and trainers – many who love and treat the animals as family.
